Dear Candidate

Thank you for your interest in the Executive Medical Director position here at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.  I hope that you will enjoy exploring this microsite and finding out more about the role, our organisation, our new strategy and our vision and values.

I joined the Trust last year and it was the warmth and commitment of our colleagues who work in Stockport that inspired my interest in the organisation.  Since then our staff have been central to shaping our values: ‘We care, We respect, We listen’ and we are committed to our mission to make a difference every day. 

We have an ambitious vision for the future of our organisation, set out in our recently agreed five year strategy which is available in the further reading section of this site.  We are clear and open about the significant challenges facing us as a Trust from both a financial and performance perspective and like many hospitals we face recruitment challenges coupled with growing demands from an aging population.  However, we have made significant progress on our improvement journey with significant financial investment support now committed in order to further develop the huge potential within our leadership teams and to fulfil our determination to sustain the delivery of safe, high quality services.  We are proud to have several services which are already best in class and we are focused on ensuring this standard is met for all our patients every day.

We are a Trust made up of a district general hospital and a wide range of community services and we hold a unique position in our local community as the provider of health care to our population and surrounding areas as well one of Stockport’s largest employers. We offer several specialist services, and play a key partnership role within Greater Manchester, Stockport, East Cheshire and North Derbyshire.

This is an exciting time to join us as our new Medical Director in a pivotal Board position working with staff and patients on the development of our clinical service strategies as well as new initiatives, such as a £30.6m urgent and emergency care campus and expansion of our diagnostic capacity with new CT scanners and growing endoscopy services. But our future is about more than just new buildings and equipment. We are committed to developing the Trust as an inclusive and clinically led organisation where diversity is celebrated; a great place to work and grow and somewhere all our staff can achieve their full potential. 

As for all health and care organisations the impact of Covid-19 on our services has been, and continues to be, significant.  We aim to build on the rapid innovations that our teams have rolled out across both hospital and community services as part of the response to Covid-19, and we are continuing to strengthen the partnerships that have proved so successful in rising to the challenges that the pandemic posed to all health and social care organisations.

We are playing our part in shaping local and regional NHS services as we move into the recovery phase of the pandemic, and looking to the future we are determined to be actively involved in delivering the borough plan for Stockport that aims to see lots of investment in the town over the next 15 years.  We are a key partner in the devolved system of Greater Manchester and we are increasingly working towards further key strategic and clinical alliances.
